Since I'm not specifically training for anything right now, I find it hard to make these Weekly Wrap posts interesting. I feel I'm just simply attempting to survive these incessant weeks of triple heat indexes. Whining about the weather is not very interesting and certainly doesn't help.  For the next month, my intention is to keep a base of running mileage and increase my cycling mileage -- laying the groundwork for a fall century or metric century ride.

So this is how my week started.  PoPo and I scooted to the lake to catch the sunrise.  I got in two long ski runs and he fished while I rested in between.  I went to work afterwards.   I wish I could take pictures while I'm out on the water.  Due to the sun's angle, I was able to create the prettiest rainbows when I kicked up my spray.

I ran progressively on Wednesday.  There was no real speed happening due to the heat and humidity, but it was an enjoyable run.  I started at a leisurely (still sleeping) 10:56 pace and ended at 9:15.

I cycled on the trainer Thursday night for 20 miles.  Looking for a diversion, I watched Naked and Afraid.   (I was neither.)  The woman in this episode kicked the dude's butt.  {Just sayin'.}

Saturday morning, I noticed we were out of coffee.  Since coffee is a must after a run, I decided to run to the grocery store.  I can now report it is difficult to run holding a box of 36 K-cups.  When I reached my neighborhood, I stashed it in the woods and added a couple of miles before heading home.  It was disgustingly hot and humid. {#90before9}  I drank two cups of coffee afterwards anyway.

It was back to the lake that afternoon where I tried a new (to me) slalom ski.  The first run on it was not so good.  I think it is too short for me.  But I will try again in calmer water to make my final decision.  If nothing else, it has great bindings which I can switch over to one of my antique tried and true skis.

Sunday morning called for another bike ride.   After a storm moved through, I went out intending to ride 30, but the overcast day felt so nice I went a little further.

And that's a wrap!

Tell me, what are you training for?

  1. I love that you ran to the supermarket to get coffee and then ran back. Although it would hard to run back with the coffee, I'm sure it was a great way to make your run more fun!

I totally agree with you about the weather. I feel like a broken record at this point but I'm so over the heat and humidity!

    1. It was hard even holding a bag with the coffee in it. I should have planned better. I enjoyed the run just being different!

  2. For not training for anything specific at the moment, you do not sit idle. I've run to the store for Kcups and use a small drawstring backpack. Yes, it gets a bit bouncy, but it's manageable for the 2-mile return trip ;-)

    1. Those cups are definitely noisy bouncing around in their box! LOL.

  3. You can water ski with your GoPro to capture those rainbows. Amazon has chest and head straps for GoPros at pretty reasonable prices. You might be able to find mount for the front of your life jacket, too.

As always, thanks for the linkup!

    1. I have skied with my GoPro! I've used both the head strap and clipped it to my vest. I never found the right angle for the best shot. Also, it's an older model and not user friendly (especially the editing part -- ugh!).

  4. Your weeks are never boring - your waterskiing shots are fantastic! We're eyeing a century in October ....

    1. There is a local one in mid October. It would be silly for me to pass on that one, right? It is also one of the better ones -- so I've been told.

    1. Thank you! I feel like they are the same thing over and over. It is nice when I can capture a sunrise or sunset along with it.

  6. Tea is my caffeine of choice, and thankfully Amazon has both kinds I like. I like that they have packs that will last me months, and I placed an order today for 3 canisters, with 50 bags each. That should last me a while.

    1. I usually order my K cups in bulk from Amazon too. I just goofed up and forgot to place the order.

  7. I sort of wish I wasn't training for anything but that dang Berlin Marathon seemed like a good idea at the time when it was way cooler. I think you need to strap a Go Pro to your head when you water ski!

    1. But it's the Berlin Marathon! I have used my old GoPro strapped to my head a few times. If I'd known I was going to be makinbg rainbows, it dang sure would have been up there!

  8. Since my half isn't until October, it kind of feels like I'm not really training yet.

When I run to the grocery store -- literally -- first off, I wouldn't do it on a day that hot, but of course luckily we don't get too many that hot -- and then I have a backpack I put my stuff in, so I can't be shopping for much. Plus I walk home (it's not too far).

I think you're still plenty active for not training.

    1. It was so hot, I decided to run with a bottle in one hand. When I added the grocery bag to the other -- it was just too much. I'm not sure I could have tolerated a backpack on my sweaty back though. At least it wasn't far.

    1. I trained for a marathon during the last two summers. It feels so much worse this year. But that's probably in my mind. I don't know how I was able to tolerate it before.

  10. Sometimes I have trouble doing my weekly wraps too. You keep it interesting with the waterskiing, so I don't think you have anything to worry about.

  11. Nice job! I still enjoy your posts even though you're not in training mode yet! I know the heat and humidity have been relentless, same here in Philly! I haven't been running as much but I know that I'll have to face it sooner or later...

  13. Great job this week & beautiful sunrise picture!

I'm building my base for my fall training. I also find that it's been hard to prioritize running when there is no real urgency with my training. My two big goals are a 23 minute 5k and a sub 2 half marathon.

    1. I feel like I'm all over the place...without any focus. But I guess that is OK for a little while. You've got some great goals!

  15. Not training for anything yet. Just trying to get myself together without illness or quasi-injury to actually train well in the fall! I'm sure I be glad I muddled through these triple digit heat indexes then. Right now...eh, I'd rather be in the water.

    ReplyDelete

    1. You almost have to be in the water around here if you want to spend time outside. Muddling through is a great way to put it.

  16. I love all of your water skiing pictures! I've never tried it! I love how you "ran" to get coffee!! I am dreaming of cooler temps and we have a long way to go before we'll get some cooler air down here!

  26. I love hearing what you do to stay active while you're not training - I struggling with motivation when I'm not specifically training for anything, so it's helpful to hear about others who keep going even though they aren't necessary on their way some where. I'm training for a fall half - I am aiming for PR, but we'll see!

    1. Staying motivated isn't always easy. But in the summer, I know there are a few active things I can do (and enjoy) that I don't get to in the winter.

  27. Love that picture of you on the water! I've thought about running to the store as well... but the carrying the purchase back always stopped me. I have biked to the store before !

    1. I'd enjoy biking to the store too but it requires crossing a major highway. I think it is easier to do that on foot.

  28. I'm feeling like you - what little running I'm doing right now is very meh thanks to our weather, which is practically identical to yours. Training for nothing, thankfully, because I'd be one sad camper if I had to push mileage in this heat and humidity.

    1. I tried holding the grocery bag but the K cups were rattling around so much. So I tried to hold the K cup box, but my sweat was making it disintegrate. LOL. I went back to holding the bag.
