Runfessions (November)

As November soon comes screeching to a halt,
it's time for a monthly dose of runfessions.

I runfess...

I simply can't do a runfession post without the obligatory cookie shot.  Isn't he festive?  Just please don't ask me how I know that his scarf comes in multiple colors.

I runfess...

I did it again.  I stuck a razor sharp GU pack in my bra.  When will I ever learn?   The wounds are quite extensive!  Maybe I could get rich by creating a super soft, comfy cottony [yet moisture-wicking] GU sleeve?

I runfess...

Here it is -- more evidence that I take the worst finish line pictures.  What was I doing?  I'd like to boast and say trying not to puke from kicking it hard down the Avenue of Flags.  That sounds so much better than the truth.  But I runfess, I'm pretty certain I was trying to soak up the snot.  Be forewarned:  Do not high five my gloved hands at a cold weather race.    {See the offending GU pack?}

I runfess...

Starbucks {aka Six-Bucks}.
Too often.
Too many holiday flavors.
Too yummy.
Too convenient.
Too expensive.
Enough said.

Yes, I've decorated...
Yes, I've drank too much Starbucks...

I runfess...

I'm all about saving the bird, taking back Thanksgiving, not shopping on The Day (or Black Friday for that matter).  But -- when I looked at what was on my calendar  (plus travel coupled with peak marathon training) I realized I would have little free time to decorate after Thanksgiving.  I caved.  I decorated beforehand...by a couple of weeks.  And I further runfess...that opened the floodgates to Christmas music and hokey Hallmark Channel movies.   Forgive me Thomas Turkey, for I have sinned.

Tell me, what do you need to runfess?

I'm linking up with the lovely Marcia today from Marcia's Healthy Slice.
Please stop by and join in with your own Runfessions!

I'm also joining on the new Friday Five 2.0 linkup

  1. I hear ya on the Starbucks-- I always go a little overboard around the holidays! And the worst is having the app on my phone. It makes me feel like I have a gift card but I really just keep reloading it with my own money!

    1. I think one of my problems is I did actually have a gift card. It was apparently burning a hole in my wallet.

  2. I'm the opposite--I drag my feet with regards to Christmas decorating. I need to put my inner Scrooge aside and get at it!

    1. I know if it gets too close to Christmas, that whole "why bother" attitude pops up. Oh, the Scrooge mentality is still kicking it pretty hard...

  3. I don't shop on black Friday so I usually use that day to decorate my house for Christmas!

So what flavors of Starbucks are your favorite? Do you get hot ot cold drinks?
    Thanks for linking up!

    1. Everything I order at SB is with "half the syrup" because it's too sweet otherwise. That being said, my year round favorite is White Chocolate Mocha. Hot in summer. Cold in winter. Ahhh....

  4. Ha, that picture looks like you had tears of joy and happiness from finishing a race. :-)

I am guilty of too much Starbucks coffee too. Although before I used to get the White Chocolate Mocha and now am loving their iced coffee. Not sure how much cheaper it is but I think I am saving some money.

No holiday decorations for me. Just a little small tree because my cat will simply knock it to the ground.

I did not make it to the stores for Black Friday but I did buy a few items from LockLaces, Athleta, Aerosoles, Kohls, and Oiselle. Sigh, I may have to eat cereal for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the next couple of months!!

    1. Well, I runfess there may be some Amazon Priming going on a little later today. I get my White Chocolate Mocha iced in the summer. My dog once chewed the lights on our tree -- while they were on. He is lucky he is still around.

  5. I could runfess the same things. I think I have you beat on Starbucks. I'm obsessed with getting stars and free ones.

I sometimes don't toss my gloves so I can use them as a tissue on cold days.

I love my skirts because they have pockets. That's where I carry my gu.

    See you soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. Oh, I was carrying my own GU in my pocket. This particular one was given out during the race. I felt obligated to take it but didn't take time to put it in my pocket. Stupid move on my part. At least those little cotton gloves are washable! See you very soon!!!

  6. One of my friends I ran Indy with totally filleted her boobular area with GU packs. Very hazardous! I am so with you on the buck of star. The cups are just so pretty this year! I runfess I've still got Halloween decorations hanging around.

    1. Luckily, my less than adequate boobular area is probably what saved me from a true dilemma. I runfess I don't have all the Halloween back in the attic either. Everything is in a "staging area".

    2. As I sit here typing, I still don't have everything back in the attic! I WILL accomplish that this weekend. I WILL.

  7. I have my Christmas shopping done but I have not decorated. I refuse to have Christmas decor in up before Thanksgiving. Now that it has passed, I may consider it.

    1. Since we always go to my in-laws for Thanksgiving Dinner, I'm OK with the early decorations. Plus, I had to take advantage of any help I could with my kids being available.

  8. If I see the photographers, I take good photos. If I don't, let's just say I have a lot of race photos of me pursing my lips.

Now that Thanksgiving is over I can breathe a sign of relief. Hannukah isn't a big deal.

    1. If I see a photog (and I usually don't) I will attempt a smile. I actually did get a decent shot from this race out on the course. I know you are happy to have the big day out of the way!

  9. I've already listened to my Christmas running list a few times. I think it was my first run in November too, and I've kept it up. It makes me happy, and I like having fun when I'm running.

    1. I further runfess...I kept a few Christmas songs on my iPod Shuffle all year long!

    Happy holidays! =)

    1. Yep -- but just the interior of the house. I made my college son do the outside once he come got. He enjoys (or at least tolerates) it.

  11. Okay so your finish photo looked like you were getting emotional to me! And given your patriotic outfit, seemed like kind of a beautiful thing! That is horrible about the GU - really not cool and I think you could have a great invention on your hands. Watch out Shark Tank, here comes HoHo with her soft GU sleeve!

    1. I showed it to Tricia and she thought I was coughing! I think you can interpret it a few different ways. LOL. They do make bras with a pocket so someone beat me to the punch on that. I typically don't use my bra (lived and learned) but I accepted the GU on course and just stupidly stuck it there.

  12. Ouch the GU in the bra cannot be a good idea! I get the worst chafing from bras sometimes

    1. It's not and I should know better. That's just where I tucked the one they gave out on course. I didn't want to take the time to unzip my pocket. HA.

  13. I will have to try one of those Starbucks cookies - I'll blame it on you! I won't decorate for another week or two - I'm too tired from all that cooking! I did some on-line shopping today -- even ordered a few gifts. :-)

    1. I hope to get some Amazon shopping done this weekend. I usually buy a new decoration for the house every year as the old stuff starts to look very dated. I haven't done that yet. You can blame the cookie on HoHo. ;)

  14. I stick Gu packets in my bra all the time. It has to be wedged in just right so it doesn't wound me.

I haven't had a Starbucks yet this holiday season. I guess it helps that I don't LOVE coffee. But sometimes, a salted caramel latte is just the thing.

We started decorating before Thanksgiving, too. We are going to be traveling and we wanted little man to be able to enjoy the decorations and festivities a bit this month without things being rushed. At first, I wasn't really thrilled about it, but it's kind of nice to have the outside done. We get a live tree, so that has to wait for a few weeks.

    1. I've done the GU thing with and without mishap. This time was the worst. I had a pocket in my skirt but didn't want to unzip it when I accepted this GU on course. I've finished my outdoor decorations now that Thanksgiving is over. My goal is to get all the boxes back in the attic today!

  15. Cute cookie!!

    Razor sharp GU pack...holy OUCH!!!

I got the kiddies the essential xmas gifts (pjs/sweats /hats etc.) all online...I just cant with the stores!!!

I have stayed away from Starbucks but it is getting harder and harder!!! This is the time of year that they have my favorite....uugh!!!

I love xmas music but fighting the urge to start listening until December..lol!!

    1. The edges of a GU pack are pretty sharp. Learn from my mistake(s) and never tuck one in your bra. I need to get busy with my online shopping. Our local radio started playing Christmas music last week. I was already listening to it anyway. LOL.

  16. Well, I have not decorated anything yet....the daughter has been home from Pennsylvania (since last weekend) and it's my goal to get the tree up & decorated before she leaves on Sunday evening. #familypic

    1. I used my college kid to do the outside decorating yesterday. My husband doesn't enjoy it and this kid does (or at least tolerates it). The kids worked on the tree off and on all week. The house was decorated and the tree was up, but not fully loaded.

  17. I runfess that I ran all of the NYC marathon with this long sleeve gorse yellow shirt that I was supposed to donate at the beginning. But it was cold. So I kept it on. But took it off at the end so I could get a couple decent photo shots. Yes, I am vain.
And I avoid Starbucks for all the reasons you have named.

    1. I would do the same thing with the shirt! And have. I've been so tired by mid afternoon here lately, Starbucks seems like the perfect remedy. I do order all of my drinks with half the "syrup" so they aren't too sweet or overloaded with calories.

  18. I've seen several manufacturers do make a bra with pocket. I don't normally use my bra but it's just where I tucked the GU they gave me during the race around mile 8. I didn't want to make the effort to unzip my skirt pocket. Stupid. Thankfully, I also got a really nice picture from this race. A rarity.

  19. Omg at first I thought that red runner design on your t-shirt was blood from the gu rubbing! Now that would have been a finish line photo!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. That is so hilarious! I can see that now. LOL. I had no idea the GU had cut into me like that until much later. After falling in Chicago, I hope I never see blood during a race again!

  20. That cookie looks irresistible! I have so many Thanksgiving treats left over and I've been "gobbling" them up! My boyfriend likes to blow his nose in his hand while running LOL...I make sure not to touch him!

    1. Thankfully, what comes out of my nose on a cold run is like water. If I didn't wipe it off, it would just look like sweat. But the gloves are so handy...
